Victims of New Orleans Attack: A Tragic Loss of Lives

The New Year’s Day attack on Bourbon Street in New Orleans claimed the lives of 15 individuals, leaving a community in mourning. Among the victims were a promising college football player, an aspiring nurse, and a mother of a young child. Martin ‘Tiger’ Bech

Martin “Tiger” Bech, a former Princeton University football player, was among the victims. Known for his competitiveness and charisma, Bech was a member of Princeton’s Ivy League Championship teams in 2016 and 2018. His brother, Jack Bech, and former coaches paid heartfelt tributes, remembering him as a beloved teammate and friend.

Nikyra Cheyenne Dedeaux

Eighteen-year-old Nikyra Dedeaux, an aspiring nurse, was also killed. Her mother, Melissa Dedeaux, confirmed the loss, sharing her grief on social media. Nikyra, a recent graduate, was set to begin her nursing training soon. Her family described her as a joyful and ambitious young woman, loved by all who knew her.

Reggie Hunter

Reggie Hunter, a 37-year-old store manager and father of two, was another victim. Known for his lively personality and love for family, Hunter had sent a New Year’s message to his relatives shortly before the attack. His cousin and younger sister remembered him as a loving and competitive spirit who brought joy to family gatherings.

Kareem Badawi

University of Alabama student Kareem Badawi was also among those who lost their lives. His father expressed deep sorrow over the loss of his son, who had a bright future ahead. University officials joined the family in mourning, asking the community to pray for those affected.

Nicole Perez

Nicole Perez, 27, managed a local deli and was a devoted mother to her four-year-old son. Friends and colleagues described her as a hardworking and caring individual who prioritized her child’s education even during work hours.

Hubert Gauthreaux

Hubert Gauthreaux, 21, a former student of Archbishop Shaw High School, was also killed. The school expressed condolences and called for prayers for his soul and those mourning his loss.

Matthew Tenedorio

Matthew Tenedorio, 25, worked as an audio-visual technician at New Orleans’ Superdome. His family described him as having a laid-back spirit and infectious laughter. Tenedorio’s mother, Cathy, shared that he was last seen alive on New Year’s Eve, celebrating with friends despite family concerns about safety.

Community Response

The attack has left families grieving and seeking answers. Many are demanding clarity from authorities regarding the events of that night, with some expressing frustration over the lack of information.
