The Israeli army said an attempt to intercept a projectile launched from Yemen overnight, some 2,000 kilometres away, was unsuccessful.
Several people were injured after the projectile fell in Tel Aviv, the army said on Saturday.
They received medical treatment. The Israeli rescue service Magen David Adom reported that 16 people suffered minor injuries from glass shards due to broken windows.
Air-raid sirens sounded in central Israel including Tel Aviv overnight, the army said on Telegram.
The Houthi militia in Yemen claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was a “military target.”
Yemen’s Houthi rebels, which like Hamas and Hezbollah in Lebanon are backed by Iran, have repeatedly fired missiles and drones at Israel in the past.
The militia claims it operates in support of the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, where Israel has been waging war against the Palestinian Islamist organization Hamas since the terrorist attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.
On Thursday, Israel bombed key ports in Yemen as well as the country’s capital Sana’a in response to attacks launched by the Houthi militia.
