General

During its iPhone 16 event last month, Apple announced that iOS 18.1 will be released in October. Apple did not provide a specific release date, but Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman this weekend said that Apple plans to release the update on Monday, October 28.

iOS 18.1 introduces the initial Apple Intelligence features for the iPhone, featuring writing tools, notification summaries, suggested replies in the Messages and Mail apps, and a new “Clean Up” tool that can eliminate unwanted people or objects from photos, among other enhancements. Apple Intelligence is accessible on both iPhone 15 Pro models and all iPhone 16 models.

Apple Intelligence will initially necessitate setting the iPhone’s device and Siri language to U.S. English. More features and support for additional languages are anticipated to be gradually introduced between iOS 18.2 and iOS 18.4.

Although Apple Intelligence is exclusively available on newer iPhones, iOS 18.1 will be released for the iPhone XS and later models. This update includes several additional modifications for Control Center, the Photos app, and more. Once released, the update can be accessed in the Settings app under General → Software Update.
